detail, an individual geometric element that is considered separately from the whole; exact location
In this Greek temple plan, the point is represented as column, which is part of the whole as well as an individual element.
LINE
a extension of a point in a specific location
In this hotel lobby the line can be seen everywhere, both vertical and horizontal. Line is created though the architecture of this space. It can be seen in the wood paneled ceiling as well as the large rectangular door ways.
PLANE
a flat two dimensional surface within a three dimensional space
This element can be seen in this translucent panel. The 4 lines meeting at 4 intersections (which can also be considered points) form a plane.
VOLUME
the amount of space an object uses within a three dimensional space
Through various intersecting lines and planes volume is created. Those planes then form length, width, and depth. The overhead plane, wall planes, and base plane enclose the surface of the room which creates dimensional volume. Even the kitchen island has its own volume.
